SUPPORTING Czech psychedelic research

About psyres

Welcome to the website of PSYRES The Czech Psychedelic Research Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to provide financial support to Czech scientific projects and workplaces that deal with innovative treatment procedures in the field of mental illnesses. Psychotherapy assisted by psychedelics naturally belongs among these procedures.

In our country, the public knows some of the history of the research into these substances. However, psychedelic substances attracted attention in the Czech scientific community much earlier than is realized by most . As early as the 19th century, the Czech physiologist, anatomist, biologist, poet and philosopher Jan Evangelista Purkyně experimented with the effects of nutmeg and belladonna. Before the Second World War, the Czech psychiatrist, psychopathologist, and medical psychologist Svetozar Nevole published a study on mescaline and studied its effect on human mental activity.

Psychoactive substances were later experimented with by one of the founders of transpersonal psychology, American psychiatrist of Czech origin Stanislav Grof, associate professor of the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine in Prague, Jiří Roubíček, and the research group of psychiatrist Miloš Vojtěchovský, who in the 1960s studied psychedelics for their use in psychotherapy and kept Czechoslovakia on the cutting edge of this research. Similarly, Milan Hausner, head of the psychiatric hospital in Sadská, which, with one hundred beds under his leadership, became the largest clinic using LSD not only in the country, but also in all of Europe, also played an important role.

The investigation of the potential of psychedelics was subsequently suspended worldwide for four decades, therefore the promising research is experiencing a welcomed renaissance in the new millennium. The task of the PSYRES Foundation is therefore to support research and study of psychedelic substances and their use in pharmacology, psychology, addictology and psychiatry.

Our activity helps with the preparation and implementation of clinical studies and analyses. We organise educational events as well. We collaborate with doctors, therapists and researchers who deal in depth with altered states of human consciousness. Among our partners you will find important Czech and international institutions.

However, we are actively looking for sympathisers of the extremely promising Czech psychedelic research not only among philanthropists, but also among the general public. We are convinced that the use of these substances in clinical medicine will bring about a fundamental change in the approach to the treatment of mental illnesses and it will provide new knowledge about the essence of human consciousness which is so valuable for the whole society.

Now, even you can support the cause! Any more questions? You can look for answers here.
